NTSA Rolls Out Instant Fines System with List of 35 Traffic Violations

In a significant step to strengthen road safety enforcement, the National Transport and Safety Authority has introduced a new instant fines framework under the Traffic, Minor Offences, and Rules of 2016. The system became operational following a notice issued on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

The initiative allows motorists who commit minor traffic violations to settle prescribed fines promptly, bypassing lengthy court proceedings. Offenders will receive automatic SMS notifications detailing the violation and the fine amount. Drivers must pay within seven days to avoid additional interest charges. Non-payment will also restrict access to other services on NTSA platforms.

The authority explained that this approach aims to encourage adherence to traffic rules, reduce court backlogs involving minor cases, enhance enforcement efficiency, promote responsible road use nationwide, improve compliance levels, lower accident rates, and streamline law enforcement processes.

NTSA urged all motorists to familiarize themselves with the listed offences and strictly observe traffic regulations. The authority advised prompt responses to any official notifications received and noted that further details would be shared through official government channels.
