Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is a statutory body in Kenya, established under Section 3(1) of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2011, pursuant to Article 79 of the Kenyan Constitution. Its primary mandate is to combat and prevent corruption, economic crime, and unethical conduct through law enforcement, preventive measures, public education, and the promotion of integrity and ethical standards.
The Commission is composed of a Chairperson and four other members, all appointed in accordance with constitutional and legislative provisions. The operational activities of the EACC are managed by a Secretariat, led by the Secretary/Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Since its inception, the EACC has made significant strides in the fight against corruption. Notably, since 2003, the Commission has secured numerous convictions in court, enhanced financial investigations, and recovered assets acquired through corrupt means as part of its deterrence strategy. These achievements have been realized through proactive disruptions, robust prosecution of recovery cases, and an enhanced use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms.
The EACC's mission is to promote integrity and combat corruption through law enforcement, prevention, and education. It serves as the lead government agency in the fight against corruption and the promotion of ethical standards, good governance, leadership, and integrity in Kenya.
Through its dedicated efforts, the EACC continues to play a pivotal role in enhancing transparency and accountability within Kenya's public and private sectors, thereby contributing to the nation's socio-economic development.
