The officer, whose identity was not disclosed in the official statement, disappeared on March 25, 2025, during an ambush along the Carrefour Paye-Savien supply route in the Pont-Sonde area of Haiti's Artibonite Department. Following an extensive joint search and rescue operation by the MSSM and the Haitian National Police (HNP), authorities confirmed the officer's death.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The NPS announced the devastating news on Thursday, expressing profound sorrow and offering support to the officer's family. The statement highlighted the service's commitment to standing by the bereaved family during this difficult time, extending heartfelt condolences to the officer's loved ones and colleagues.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The confirmation comes after months of uncertainty and conflicting information. During the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), President William Ruto publicly honored Kenyan officers who lost their lives in Haiti, naming Samuel Tuoi, Benedict Kabiru, and Kennedy Nzuve as those who died in the line of duty. This marked a shift from earlier government assurances, including statements from the Inspector General of Police, who had previously indicated that efforts were ongoing to locate the missing officer.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The family of Benedict Kabiru, identified as the officer missing since March, expressed shock and frustration at the news. Jacinta Kabiru, the officer's mother, voiced her anguish, stating that the family felt misled by the government for months. She called for transparency and the repatriation of her son's remains, emphasizing her need for closure.</p>
<p dir="ltr">The MSSM, under Kenya's leadership, continues to work closely with the Haitian National Police to stabilize the region and address security challenges. The mission has pledged to provide further updates on the situation as investigations continue.</p>
<p dir="ltr">In a separate development, the NPS confirmed that the body of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve, who died in a road accident in Haiti on September 1, 2025, is expected to arrive in Nairobi on September 26, 2025.
