Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya)

The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to advancing women’s rights and access to justice in Kenya. Established in 1985 during the 3rd UN Conference on Women in Nairobi and registered in 1993 under the NGO Coordination Act, FIDA-Kenya has provided free legal aid to over 3 million women in its 37-year history. With a membership of over 1,400 women advocates and lawyers, the organization works tirelessly to create a society free from discrimination against women, empowering them to claim their rights in all spheres of life.

FIDA-Kenya’s core mission focuses on increasing access to justice through legal representation, self-representation, mediation, and strategic impact litigation. It addresses issues such as custody, matrimonial disputes, gender-based violence, employment discrimination, and land rights, while advocating for policy, legislative, and institutional reforms at national and county levels. The organization also conducts research, public education, and advocacy to promote gender sensitivity and systemic change. Operating from offices in Nairobi, Kisumu, and Mombasa, FIDA-Kenya offers pro bono legal services, psychosocial support, and nationwide awareness campaigns on intimate partner violence and other forms of violence against women.

FIDA-Kenya’s strategic objectives include enhancing women’s access to justice, fostering respect for women’s rights through systemic reforms, and improving organizational efficiency to better serve stakeholders. Recognized for its impactful work, FIDA-Kenya remains a beacon of hope for indigent women seeking justice and equality in Kenya.
