Awareness Against Human Trafficking (HAART)
Awareness Against Human Trafficking (HAART) is a Nairobi-based non-governmental organization dedicated to combating human trafficking in Kenya and Eastern Africa since its founding in 2010. HAART employs a multidisciplinary approach, adhering to the UN Four P’s Strategy - Prevention, Protection, Prosecution, and Partnerships - to address the trafficking crisis that has positioned Kenya as a central hub for such activities in the region. The organization’s mission is to create a trafficking-free society by fostering holistic care, enabling victims’ transformation, partnering with survivors, and building community resilience.
HAART’s efforts include grassroots awareness campaigns, victim identification, and comprehensive survivor support, having assisted over 1,000 victims and reached more than 100,000 people through workshops. Services provided to survivors encompass counseling, medical care, legal aid, economic empowerment, and safe shelter. HAART also emphasizes the rule of law, collaborating with local authorities to prosecute traffickers and advocate for justice within the criminal justice system. Their programs, such as Young@HAART and Arts to End Slavery, engage youth and leverage creative outlets to amplify anti-trafficking messages.
The organization values integrity, victim-centered care, and collaboration, working with grassroots partners, volunteers, and networks like the Mixed Migration Task Force. HAART’s team comprises professionals in law, psychology, social work, and public health, ensuring a robust response to trafficking’s complexities. For legal professionals seeking to engage with anti-trafficking initiatives or support victims’ rights, HAART offers opportunities for partnership and volunteerism.
