Murkomen Demands Stiff Penalties For Political Violence Offenders Regardless Of Party
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on the Judiciary to impose stiff penalties on perpetrators of political violence regardless of their party affiliation. Speaking at the Cherangany Unity Cup in Trans Nzoia County Murkomen vowed that security agencies would deal decisively with offenders.
Murkomen stated that as security agencies intensify efforts to bring those responsible to book the Judiciary must treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves and set a firm precedent to deter future acts. He was accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli and several local leaders. The cabinet secretary urged political players to exercise tolerance reject violence and embrace issue based politics that positively engages the youth and contributes to national development.
The remarks come hours after hired goons blocked sections of Nairobi Southern Bypass lit bonfires and caused temporary disruption ahead of a political rally led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Separately Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was attacked by goons at a restaurant in Kisumu in broad daylight on Wednesday. Osotsi described the assault as a politically instigated assassination attempt and accused senior security officials of orchestrating it.
Three suspects Carlos Owiti alias Kalonje aged 24 and Vincent Odhiambo alias Tinga aged 27 both from Nyalenda and Eric Otieno alias Dude aged 39 from Manyatta have been arrested by DCI detectives in Kisumu. The incident has been widely condemned with leaders and citizens warning of a growing trend of violence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
