National Police Service Commission of Kenya (NPSC)
The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) of Kenya, established under Article 246 of the 2010 Constitution, is an independent body tasked with overseeing the human resource functions of the National Police Service (NPS), which includes the Kenya Police Service, Administration Police Service, and Directorate of Criminal Investigations. The NPSC began operations in October 2012 and is headquartered at CBK Pension Towers, Nairobi. Its core mandate involves recruiting and appointing personnel, confirming appointments, managing promotions and transfers, and exercising disciplinary control within the NPS. The Commission also ensures compliance with constitutional values such as transparency, accountability, and diversity in its operations.
Led by a Chairman and CEO, the NPSC comprises several commissioners and deputy inspectors general, working collaboratively to enhance the professionalism and efficiency of the police service. The Commission addresses critical areas such as welfare, leadership, and discipline, aiming to reform and strengthen the NPS as recommended by historical reports like the Ransley and Waki Reports. It also engages in initiatives like combating terrorism through community programs and facilitating recruitment via an online portal. The NPSC invites applications for various positions, ensuring a rigorous selection process aligned with legal and constitutional standards.
