<p dir="auto">Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged the Judiciary to hand down stiff penalties to anyone involved in political violence irrespective of political affiliation. Addressing participants at the Cherangany Unity Cup in Trans Nzoia County Murkomen emphasised that security agencies will intensify efforts to apprehend offenders and called on the courts to set a strong deterrent precedent for now and the future.</p>
<p dir="auto">Murkomen who was joined by Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli stressed the need for political tolerance and issue based engagement that involves the youth in national development. His statement follows two recent incidents that have heightened fears of escalating violence. Hired goons blocked parts of the Southern Bypass in Nairobi lighting bonfires and disrupting traffic shortly before a rally addressed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.</p>
<p dir="auto">In a separate attack Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was assaulted in broad daylight at a Kisumu restaurant on Wednesday. Osotsi termed the incident a politically motivated assassination attempt and pointed fingers at senior security officials. DCI detectives have since arrested three suspects in Kisumu Carlos Owiti alias Kalonje 24 Vincent Odhiambo alias Tinga 27 both from Nyalenda and Eric Otieno alias Dude 39 from Manyatta.</p>
