HAKI Africa

HAKI Africa is a pan-African human rights organization headquartered in Mombasa, Kenya, dedicated to advancing justice and the progressive realization of human rights across the continent. Established in 2012, the organization focuses on improving livelihoods and ensuring respect for human rights and the rule of law by fostering collaboration between state and non-state actors. HAKI Africa’s mission centers on empowering local communities, particularly the poor and marginalized, to actively participate in rights and development initiatives. The name "HAKI," meaning "justice" or "human right" in Swahili, reflects its core values: Humanity, Activism, Knowledge, and Integrity.

The organization undertakes various projects to promote fundamental rights, community development, and access to justice. It partners with community movements, justice centers, and state institutions like the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to address systemic barriers within the justice system. HAKI Africa also engages in advocacy, legal aid, capacity building, and initiatives like the Women Initiative For Their Empowerment (WIFE), which empowers women to counter violent extremism and enhance community security. Additionally, it provides platforms for dialogue, documentation of human rights violations, and campaigns for social justice.

HAKI Africa operates primarily in Kenya, with a focus on coastal and north-eastern regions, but its vision extends across Africa. Through its efforts, the organization seeks to create a society where human rights are respected, and individuals are enlightened about their rights.
