Amnesty International Kenya

Amnesty International Kenya is a prominent human rights organization, part of a global movement with over 10 million supporters across 150+ countries. Established in Kenya since 2012, it has evolved into one of the country’s most visible and respected human rights entities, focusing on advocacy, education, and legal accountability. Its mission centers on protecting civil liberties, combating inequalities, and ensuring access to justice for all, with campaigns addressing issues like enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, gender-based violence, and digital rights. The organization operates under a 2024-2028 Strategic Framework, emphasizing citizen-led movements, democratic governance, and sustainable operations. Amnesty Kenya engages diverse stakeholders, including county and national governments, activists, and social justice centres, while fostering a network of over 1,700 members and 21,000 supporters through its “Circles of Conscience” initiative.

Governed by a Kenyan board, it integrates civil, political, economic, and social rights in its work, maintaining a non-partisan stance to broaden its societal impact. Key programs include training human rights defenders, advocating for legislative reforms like the Sexual Offences Act (2006), and promoting data protection in the digital age. Based in Nairobi, Amnesty Kenya invites collaboration from individuals passionate about human rights, offering opportunities for membership, volunteering, and professional roles in its mission to create a future where human rights are universally respected.
